Obsessive Compulsive
Personality Disorder

Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder is a mental impairment that differs from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in a few ways. Here you'll discover the symptoms I have of OCPD and find out the difference between OCPD and OCD.

The first and one of the most complicated traits of OCPD that I posses is constant checking of work I have completed. For example, I may write a webpage in an hour, but I spend two hours checking that page to make sure everything is in place,
everything is spelled correctly, and that it looks presentable and makes sense. This trait would be considered showing perfectionism that interferes with task completion.

This is only one example, I check just about everything I do, including when I am working in the yard, cleaning house, or even doing something as simple as mowing the yard. I take so many breaks to "admire" my work. That's what I call it anyway. I am really searching out imperfections.

Another trait of OCPD that I have is excessive devotion to work and productivity. It's hard for me to sit down at night and watch television. I constantly work, some people may call me a workaholic. I am, I spend most of my life in front of my computer working on my multiple websites. I rarely go out and do things with friends and spend time just plain relaxing.

A final example of an OCPD trait that I have includes reluctance to delegate tasks. I like to do things my way and only my way, therefore, it's complicated to expect or allow someone else to do it. When it comes to finances, for example, I rely only on myself. I could never allow someone to do my taxes, pay my bills, or manage my credit. I take on these tasks all myself. I'm too afraid that an accountant would not do these tasks the same way I would.

These are just a few of the Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder traits that I possess. If you'd like to learn what all the OCPD traits include, check out the diagnostic criteria for OCPD.

My Diagnosis

Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder was my first mental disorder diagnosis. I honestly was not even aware of the diagnosis, until my psychiatrist changed my diagnoses from OCPD to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

The best way to find out if you suffer from OCPD is to compare the diagnostic criteria to your own life. If you carry at least four symptoms of OCPD, it's time to get a professional opinion.

The biggest difference between Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder is that people with OCPD do not perform the characteristic "rituals" that OCDer's do. This is why my dianosis was changed to OCD by my psychiatrist, because I perform these rituals. See what rituals I perform.
